What is the procedure for hiring a vehicle with Nairobi Car Hire Services?

Book online and provide details of the vehicle required, rental dates, and airport arrival information. Booking confirmation will be sent prior to your arrival.

What documentation is required for driving a hired vehicle in Kenya?

A valid driving license from your country of origin (English preferred) or an International Driving Permit (IDP) is required. Foreign licenses are valid for up to 90 days; after that, a local NTSA license is required.

What is the minimum age and driving experience required?

Drivers must be at least 23 years old and have at least 2 years of driving experience.

Do you offer half-day rentals?

No. Vehicles are rented on a full-day basis.

Is a security deposit required?

No deposit is required. Payment is made upon arrival, once booking is confirmed.

What insurance coverage is included?

Vehicles come with Comprehensive Insurance covering third-party liability, theft, and accident damage, subject to an excess. Coverage may include CDW, Theft Protection (TPI), and Personal Accident Insurance (PAI).

What are the insurance exclusions?

Excludes damage to tyres, windshields, radio equipment, and damage caused by negligence such as drunk driving or off-road misuse.

Do you offer long-term rentals?

Yes. Long-term rentals are available and renewable monthly.

Can I hire a vehicle with a driver?

Yes. We offer self-drive and chauffeur-driven options. Overland trucks, shuttle buses, and project vehicles are hired with a driver only.

Is fuel included in the rental price?

Vehicles are supplied with a full tank and must be returned full. Some vehicles, like overland trucks, include fuel; this is indicated during booking.

What must foreign drivers carry while driving in Kenya?

Original passport, valid driving license, and vehicle lease contract (customer copy).

Are park entry fees included in the rental price?

No. Park fees are paid directly to the park authority. Advance ticket purchase is required for KWS-managed parks and Maasai Mara.

Do you assist with park fee payments?

Yes. We can assist for a small administrative fee.

Can I take the vehicle to national parks?

Yes, subject to park rules. Certain parks restrict access to Tourist Vehicles only.

Can I drive the vehicle outside Kenya?

Generally allowed with prior notice and COMESA insurance arrangements, depending on vehicle type.

What payment methods do you accept?

Cash in USD or card payments via PesaPal.

Is there a mileage limit?

No strict mileage limit; usage must follow the agreed rental terms.

Do you offer discounts for long-term rentals?

Yes. Rentals of 7 days or more may qualify for discounts. Contact us for a custom quote.

Are child safety seats available?

Yes. Available upon request for a small fee. Advance booking is recommended.

Where can I pick up the vehicle?

Pickup is usually at the airport or your hotel in Nairobi.

Where do I return the vehicle after use?

Vehicles can be returned to the airport or hotel, as agreed.

What happens in case of mechanical breakdown?

Roadside assistance and replacement vehicle are provided if needed.

What safety precautions do you advise?

Lock the car fully, keep valuables out of sight, avoid night driving on unfamiliar roads, do not stop for strangers, and maintain safe driving speeds.
